هذا الكتاب حوار مطول حول رحلة الشاعر الكبير أحمد عبد المعطي حجازي مع الحياة والابداع ، وقد أجرى هذا الحوار الكاتب والروائي المغربي القدير عبد القادر الشاوي . وقد صدرت الطبعة الأولى منه هن منتدى أصيلة بالمملكة المغربية .. وها نحن نعيد طبعة ليستفيد منه كل باحث وناقد .
يقول عبد المعطي حجازي : "إنني أشتغل كثيرا جدا على عملي الشعري، ولا أكتب القصيدة لمجرد القدرة الحرفية أو الخبرة أو المعرفة أو العلم، أو مجرد سيطرة على الأدوات، بل أكتب القصيدة بكل كياني، بعقلي وجسدي وبقلبي وبيدي، أكتب الصوت كما أكتب المعنى، أكتب الصورة كما أكتب الإيقاع.
أشعر كما لو أنني الغريق والقصيدة هي الجزيرة التي أقف عليها في هذا البحر الطامي، كما لو أن الحياة انتهت والقصيدة هي آخر مابقي من هذه الحياة. إحساسي قوي بأنني بالرغم من اهتمامي الكبير في المرحلة الأخيرة بأدوات الكتابة، موغل في الجمال بماهو قيمة إنسانية. "
