بما أن التوحد هو مرض معقّد تتداخل فيه عدة عناصر دماغية مضطربة وقد يأخذ الأمر للتعامل معها جهداً كبيراً ووقتاً طويلاً لهذا يضطر أهل الطفل التوحدي التعامل مع فريق عمل متكامل من أصحاب الإختصاصات بدءاً من طبيب الأطفال والإختصاصي النفسي مروراً بعلاج النطق والحسي الحركي والعلاج الغذائي وصولاً إلى متخصصين في التربية للتدريب والتعليم. ولا ننسى دور تآزر عائلات الأطفال التوحديين لما لديهم من مخزون تجارب مع أطفالهم وإن اختلفت من حالة لأخرى فهي تشير إلى المعوقات التي يعانون منها . وللمدرسة دورٌ كبيرٌ في التعليم والتدريب، فالتعاون بكافة هذه المجالات له أثر كبير على الجميع عندها تصبح عائلة الطفل التوحدي أكثر راحة نفسية لوجود أطراف أخرى تدعمها وتساندها.
ولإعطاء صورة مشرقة عن الوضع الحالي لاضطراب التوحد فإن المراكز المختصة في هذا المجال تقدم خدمات ملفتة لدعم الأهل في رعاية أطفالهم التوحديين كي يكتسبوا المهارات في حدودها القصوى وتساعد أطفال التوحد على إطلاق طاقاتهم الكامنة حتى ولو كانت إصابتهم شديدة ومعقدة، وتساعدهم على التكييّف في المجتمع بصورة طبيعية في الحد الأدنى.
