هارون الرشيد ..سبَب حبي له أنه رَجُل عاطفي ذَوَّاق، يَخضع للمؤثرات الوقتية؛ فيصلِّي مائة ركعة كُلَّ يوم، ويَحُجُّ ماشيًا، ويَهِيم من ناحية أخرى بالجمال والغناء ومجالس الشراب،وَيُحَدِّثه أبو العتاهية حديث الزهد فيبكي حتى تَخْضَلَّ لِحْيَتُهُ، ويقول له ابن أبي مريم نكتة فيَضْحَك حتى يَسْتَلْقِيَ على قَفَاه، ويرضى عن البرامكة فيُطْلِق لهم العَنَان، ويَغْضَب عليهم فيَنْكُل بِهِمْ أَشَدَّ النكَالِ.
وَرَجُل كهذا يَكُون - عادةً - صريحًا صادقًا … وأُحِبُّه أيضًا؛ لأنه أعلى شأنَ الشرق في الغرب، فكلما ذُكر هارون الرشيد تَخَيَّل الغربيون الشرق بفتنته العجيبة، وجاذبيته الساحرة؛ والسبب في ذلك كتاب ألْف ليلة وليلة.
