رغم بعض الدراسات التي عالجت "القصة القصيرة في الأدب السعودي" إلا أنها مازالت في حاجة إلى مزيد من الدراسات النقدية الجادة التي تبحث وتنقب وتحلل.كل هذا كان دافعا لتأليف هذا الكتاب, من حيث إنه مدخل أولي ومحاولة لإستكشاف مسارات وسمات فنية "للقصة القصيرة" في أدب المرأة السعودية.
والكتاب ينقسم إلى قسمين.. القسم الأول: دراسة موجزة عن القصة عند المرأة السعودية ونماذج تحليلية منها, وكان منهج الدراسة يعتمد على مواجهة النص القصصي ومعايشته.
أما القسم الثاني: مختارات قصصية ، وهى مختارات من القصة القصيرة التي أبدعتها المرأة السعودية .. وقد راعى الكاتب في اختيارها أن تمثل إتجاهات القصة في أدب المرأة السعودية في مراحلها المختلفة بقدر الإمكان. ولم يقف اختياره عند مرحلة معينة أو جيل معين, بل إختار قصصاً لشابات سعوديات, توسم أنه سيكون لهن مستقبل في الغد في عالم القصة .
