دخان سجائر يملأ المكان. يد ممددة على حافة أريكة جلدية وأخرى على كتف أسمر عاري. زجاجات نبيذ شبه فارغة، وكؤوس تنتظر بفارغ الصبر لتتأوه تحت شفاه بشرية. صوت موسيقى الجاز آت من حانة ما في الطبقة السفلى من إحدى المباني المستسلمة لزرقة السماء. صوفيا ممددة كثعبان كسول في شمس تموز على رمال صحراوية. شعرها مسترسل على صدرها العاري تغطي نصفه قطعة قماش بنفسجية اللون. ثياب متناثرة كمطر أيلول، الغرفة غارقة في فوضى عارمة. كلبتها كارمونا تلعق ما تبقى من طعام في جوف صحنها منتظرةً من يملأه مجدداً. ستائرها ترك الزمان بصمته عليها باصفرار باهت يذكرها بمروره. شتلات ورود ملونة تسبح في صحن زجاجي مبرقع وشمعة أذابت نفسها من غيرتها.
رنّ جرس الباب رنَّة واحدة. رنَّ مجدداً ثلاث مرات متتالية. فتحت جفناها لضوء الظهيرة الذي التهم بؤبؤ عيناها دون استئذان. نظرت نحو ساعة الحائط الصامدة منذ الأبد، المؤنبة لحظات حياة ضاعت في دموع على وسادة. تجذبت كقطة سيامية أرهقها النوم في منزل عجوز صامتة. ارتدت كنزتها وسروالها الفضفاض واتجهت ناحية صوت الجرس.
