في هَذَا المُؤلَّفِ يَجمَعُ الدكتور «سيد علي إسماعيل» بَينَ دِراسةٍ عَن حَياةِ «تادرس وهبي بك»، وعَملٍ يُعَدُّ مِن أَهمِّ مُؤلَّفاتِه المَسرَحية؛ وهُو «عنوانُ التَّوفِيق في قِصةِ يُوسُفَ الصِّدِّيق يَسرُدُ لَنا الكاتِبُ تَفاصِيلَ حَياةِ «تادرس وهبي بك» ونَشْأتِه؛ مُنذُ الْتِحاقِه بمَدرَسةِ الأَرْمنِ بالأَزْبكيةِ وتَعلُّمِه مَبادِئَ اللُّغةِ الفَرنسِية، إلى أنْ أَصْبحَ مُعلِّمًا لَها في مَدرَسةِ «حارَة السقَّائين» القِبْطية؛ ومِن ثَمَّ تَرقَّى وأَصْبحَ ناظِرًا للمَدرَسة. وضَعَ «تادرس وهبي» العَدِيدَ مِنَ المُؤلَّفاتِ التَّعلِيمية، مِن أَبْرزِها «الخُلاصةُ الذَّهَبية في اللُّغةِ العَرَبية»، وفِي فَنِّ المَسرَحِ قدَّمَ «الأَثَر النَّفِيس في تَارِيخِ بطرسَ الأَكْبرِ ومُحاكَمةِ ألكسيس»، ومَسرَحيةَ «عنوانُ التَّوفِيق في قِصةِ يُوسُفَ الصِّدِّيق» المُلحَقَ نَصُّها بهذِهِ الدِّراسة؛ ذَاكَ النَّصُّ الذِي يُعَدُّ أولَ نَصٍّ مَسرَحيٍّ يُعرَضُ على الرَّقابةِ الفَنيةِ آنَذَاك؛ نَظرًا لِمَا يَسرُدُه مِن وَقائِعَ حَقِيقيةٍ عَن قِصةِ «سَيِّدنا يُوسُف». وقَدِ اعْتَمدَ «تادرس وهبي» في كِتابةِ الأَحْداثِ عَلى «القُرآنِ الكَرِيم» في المَقامِ الأَوَّل، ولَمْ يَعتمِدْ على نَصِّ «التَّوْراة»، وقَدْ أضافَ مُلحَقًا بأَحْداثِ القِصةِ كَما وَردَتْ في الأَدْيانِ الثَّلَاثة.
