هي مسرحية كوميدية ساخرة استطاع من خلالها شكسبير أن يرسم بريشته الأدبية الساحرة صورة بليغة لشخصية «هيلين» الزوجة التي حطمت جدران صمت وإعراض زوجها عنها؛ وأبدلتها إلى محبةٍ سَطَّرَت في صفحة الأدب الإنجليزي فريدةً من فرائد شكسبير الأدبية؛ فقد أراد شكسبير أن يدلل على أنَّ المرأة إذا حملت بين جوانحها حبًّا صادقًا؛ استطاعت أن تولِّدَ من جذوته شُعلةً من وميض الصبر الذي يبرهن على انتصار مكرها في حسم المعركة لصالحها؛ فتتحول بفضل صبرها ومكرها من مقهورة إلى قاهرة. ويرى النقاد أن هذه المسرحية لم تكن وليدة إبداع شكسبير وحده، وإنما شاركه فيها «توماس ميدلتون»؛ وذلك وفقًا للتحليل الأدبي المُعمَّقِ لمفردات المسرحية والنَّظم البلاغي، حيث تتضح البصمة الأسلوبية المُمَيزة لميدلتون، كما تعزي هذه الشراكة إلى النَّهج التعاوني الذي انتهجه كُتاب ذلك العصر في إخراج العمل الأدبي.
