هي رواية تاريخية من سلسلة جرجي زيدان "روايات تاريخ الاسلام".
تروي الرواية قصة شجرة الدر زوجة الملك الصالح كأول ملكة تتولى الحكم في مصر ، بعد وفاة توران شاه آخر سلاطين العصر الأيوبي .
يصور جرجي زيدان في الرواية صراع التتر بقيادة هولاكو مع العباسيين في عهد المستعصم بالله ، و قضائهم على حكومة بغداد. وتصور كذلك ما كان يجري في مصر من صراعات سياسية حول السلطة بعد نهاية حكم الكبار الأيوبيين، لذلك تولت شجرة الدر حكم مصر وبذلك كانت أول ملكة في الإسلام، وقد تزامن توليها الحكم أحداث تراجيدية في تاريخ الإسلام من قبل سلطان بغداد بمكيدة سلافة ليكون الحكم في الأخير لركن الدين بيبرس و الأمير أبي بكر أحمد بعد تراجع الزحف المغولي. وفي خضم هذا الصراع التاريخي نجد صراعا دينيا بين المذهبين: السني الذي تمثله الخلافة العباسية، والمذهب الشيعي الذي يدافع عنه سحبان و مؤيد الدين بن العلقمي وزير المستعصم بالله.
تتضمن الرواية أيضا قصة حب مميزة بين جارية شجرة الدر (شويكار) وركن الدين بيبرس.
الرواية مكتوبة بطريقة متقنة ،الشخصيات بسيطة في اغلب الاحيان و الحبكة ممتعة ينجح الكاتب في نقل القارئ الى العصور الوسطى بطريقة بسيطة و يحاول تسليط الضوء على ابرز عوامل الفشل والنجاح كشخصية مهمة في تلك الحقبة.
