تحمل هذه المجموعة الشعرية بين طياتها مقطوعاتٍ شعريةٍ نظمها الكاتب استجابةً لدعوة جمعية الشعر الموجودة في لندن، وذلك بمناسبة تجديد افتتاح "ممثل شكسبير التذكاري"، الذي تم ترميمه وتجديده بعد أن تعرض لحريقٍ كبير، وقد كانت كتابة الشعر لهذه المناسبة بمثابة دعوة عامة لجميع الشعراء من مختلف الأصول والمنابت، الذي يعرفون ويقدرون قيمة الكاتب الكبير شكسبير، ويكنّون الاحترام لآثاره الخالدة ومزاياه التي تمتع بها، ويعرفون جيداً أدبه الساحر المثقف، وشخصيته الرائعة، وقد تم اختيار تاريخ يوم الثالث والعشرين من شهر نيسان من عام 1937 م، يوماً للاحتفال الراقي والكبير "يوافق هذا اليوم ذكرى ميلاد شكسبير"، الذي يعتبر بمثابة عيدٍ لإحياء ذكرى شكسبير، حيث نظم الكاتب هذه المجموعة الشعرية بدافعَين قويين هما: دافع الواجب الإنساني الذي حثه على الاشتراك في هذا المثل العظيم، ودافع الإجلال والإكبار لشخص شكسبير العظيم، الذي قدم للإنسانية أفخم وأروع الكتابات بإبداعه وعقله.
