منذ أعلن بورخس، بالنسبة إلى الكاتب الأميركي اللاتيني، نهاية عقدة النقص التي منعت كتابهم عن إثارة موضوعات مدينة وسجنتهم في وجهة نظر محلية، راح هو يشد الثقافة الكونية كما يفعل الأوروبي أو الأميركي الشمالي، إلا أن هذا لم يجعل من بورخس أوروبيا على الرغم من أن هناك كتاباً أميركيين لا تبين اتهموا بورخس بأنه متأورب وأنه ليس أكثر من كاتب إنكليزى. لم يستطيعوا معرفة السبب.
هذا الكاتب الذي يمتزج في قصصه بلدان مختلفة وعصور وموضوعات كثيرة، بدا بالنسبة عليهم، غريباً. لم يكونوا مخطئين لم يكن بورخس كاتباً مسجوناً خلف القضبان الثقيلة للتراث القومي كما يحدث غالباً للكتاب الأوروبيين. سهلت هذه الحرية رحلاته عبر الفضاء الثقافي الذي تحرك فيه بسهولة محكمة نظراً لإتقانه لغات عديدة. كان متلهفاً ليصبح سيد جو ثقافي واسع المدى، لذا كان انخرط المتوتر في الأدب الأوروبي طريقة لتشكيل جغرافيته الشخصية وخصوصيته. لذا فإن هناك منطقة يدين فيها الكاتب الأميركي اللاتيني بالكثير لنموذج بورخس الذي لم يبرهن أنه أرجنتينياً يستطيع أن يتحدث بثقة من شكسبير ويبتكر قصصاً مقنعة بشخصيات جاءت من أبر دين فحسب، وإنما أيضاً أحدث ثورة في تراث لغته الأدبية.
إن نثر بورخس، ونظراً لأصالته الخاصة، بسبب فوضى كبيرة بين معجبين لا يحصى عددهم، تحول في أعمالهم كاستخدام صور معينة أو أفعال أو ثبوت إبداعها بورخس إلى محاكاة ساخرة فحسب. هذا هو التأثير إلى هذا القابل للرصد، لأن بورخس كان أحد الكتاب الذين نجحوا، بشكل كامل، في أن يضعوا حقهم الشخصي على اللغة الإسبانية: في هذا الإطار يأتي كتاباً "ذاكرة شكسبير"الذي حمل بعضاً من أعمال خورخ لويس بورخس الأميركي اللاتيني (1899-1986) الذي كان شاعراً طليعياً ممتازاً في العشرينات والثلاثينات، إلا أن شهدته العالمية استندت إلى قصصه القصيرة التي بدأ بورخس، ليتبع ذلك قصصاً قصيرة لبورخس وهي: الخامس والعشرون من آب 1983 النمور الزرقاء، وردة بارا تلسو، ذاكرة شكسبير.
