كتاب شهير للفقيه والفيلسوف والأصولي الاسلامي "أبو حامد الغزالي"، أحد أعلام عصره وأحد أشهر علماء المسلمين في القرن الخامس الهجري، يُعد أحد مؤسسي المدرسة الأشعرية السنيّة في علم الكلام. أُعتبر هذا الكتاب بمثابة رد صارخ على أطروحات الفلاسفة المعاصرين له، فالفلاسفة وفق منظوره يشوبهم الاستكبار بادعائهم التوصل للحقيقة في المسائل الغيبية من منطلق عقلي محض، وهو ما سيؤول وفق الغزالي حتما بالفشل في أيجاد أجوبة لطبيعة الخالق، داعيا اياهم لتوجيه اهتماماتهم في المسائل القابلة للتجربة والقياس، إذ يرى الغزالي أن مساعي الفلاسفة لإدراك طبيعة أمور غيبية غير قابلة للاختبار من الحواس منافيا بالأساس للفلسفة. يخلص الغزالي لاستنتاج (خاص به) يفيد باستحالة تطبيق قوانين الجانب المرئي والمحسوس في الإنسان لإدراك الأمور الروحانية والغيبية.
يعد الغزالي من أوائل من حاولوا التوفيق بين المنطق الأرسطي (المعزو للفيلسوف اليوناني الشهير أرسطو) والعلوم الاسلامية بشتى أصنافها، لكنّه يشن هجوما عنيفا فيه على الفلاسفة المسلمين الذين اعتمدوا الفلسفة اليونانية. رد عليه لاحقا الفيلسوف الكبير ورائد من رواد مدرسة المعتزلة الاسلامية "ابن رشد" في كتابه تهافت التهافت
