يُناقشُ الفيلسوف العلّامة "طنطاوي جوهري" في كتابه هذا قضيّةً مهمّةً من القضايا الّتي احتار بشأنها فلاسفة عصره، وهي قضيّة "السّلام العام"، وتحدّث حول كيفيّة الوصول إليه وصنعه من خلال النّواميس الطّبيعية، والأنظمة الكونيّة، ويُعتبر بمثابة رسالة موجهة لجميع طبقات المجتمع، ودعوة للعودة إلى المبادئ الإنسانية الخالصة.
وقد أخذ الكتاب شكلاً حواريّاً بين المؤلّف وإحدى الأرواح في مذنّب "هالي"، حيث استحضر الكاتب تلك الرّوح الفلسفيّة المنطقيّة، ليدور بينهما الحوار، إذ تطرح تلك الرّوح أسئلتها حول الإنسان، وأخلاقه، ومعارفه، وغيرها من الأسئلة الّتي يجيب عنها "طنطاوي جوهري"، الّذي جعل هذا الحوار ضمن عشرين فصلاً، وقد عظم شأن هذا الكتاب وتمت طباعته بعدة لغات.
أما العلّامة "طنطاوي جوهري" فهو حكيم الإسلام الشّيخ "طنطاوي جوهري"، ولد في إحدى مناطق المحافظة الشّرقية في مصر، سنة 1870، وتعلّم القرآن الكريم وعلوم الطّبيعة والفلك وغيرها من العلوم، فكان عالماً وفيلسوفاً موسوعيّا، جمع بين الكثير من العلوم، وكان من دعاة السّلام، والمناضلين ضدّ الاستعمار، وقد توفي سنة 1940.
