جاك تاجر: مؤرخ من الروم الكاثوليك، سوري الأصل، ولد بالقاهرة عام ١٩١٨م، تعلم في «الفرير» وتولى إدارة المكتبة الخاصة بقصر عابدين، وقد توفي عام ١٩٥٢م.

في مَعْرِض تناول التسلسل التاريخي لمصر إبّان الفتح العربي وحتى عام 1922م، غَلُبّ رفض التحيز لأي طائفة دينية مصرية واضحًا في جميع ثنايا هذا الكتاب، مما دفع بالبعض لفهم هذا المنظور الحيادي على أنه تعمدًا من قِبَل "جاك تاجر" لتحريف التاريخ الإسلامي وتجريده من مكنونه الأصلي وإثارة الشبهات حوله،حيث يستعرض "تاجر" حملات التهميش التي حظيت بها الطائفة القبطية في المؤلفات العربية والغربية باستثناء القلة القليلة، فما كان لتاجر للرد على ادعاءات عن محاولاته لإثارة الفتن بـ" رفض نسبه إلى أي طائفة كانت مسلمة أو قبطية وإنما كونه مؤرخًا حياديًا ينقل الصورة كما هي بعيدًا عن أية أحكام تُذْكَر".
فيما راح البعض لدراسة الآلية العلمية المُتَبَعة في كتابه هذا والذي تبيّن في نهاية المطاف أنه كتاب مُعَد على الطريقة الأكاديمية البحتة الأجنبية والوطنية، مما جعل منه كتابًا من بين قائمة المؤلفات التي يستعين بها الساسة والقادة للتعرف على الوسائل التي تعزز من إيجاد قاعدة مشتركة لهذين المكونين الأساسيين في المجتمع المصري (الإسلامي والمسيحي) والتي من شأنها أيضًا رَأْب أي سيناريو نزاع محتمل الحدوث.
