روايةٌ من تأليف الشّاعر والرّوائي إبراهيم المازني، عالج فيها قضيّة اجتماعيّةً تسود في المجتمع المصري، والعربي على حدّ السّواء، لكن ربّما يتعرّض لها أبناء الأرياف أكثر من سواهم. حينما يمرّ البطل "إبراهيم الكاتب" في أكثر من علاقة مع فتاة، وتروق له أحدها، أكثر من الأخرى، ثمّ يعود ويدنو، ويقبل الزّواج من فتاةٍ تختارها أمّه له.
يتزوّج من فتاة لا يعرفها، ولم يتسنّى له أن يحبّها، حتّى أنّها لم تخطر له على بال، هذا الإنموذج من الزّواج هو تجربة ذاتيّة وجدانيّة شعوريّة، يعاني فيها البطل من تناقضات في المشاعر، ثمّ يتشتّت بين رغباته، وبين ما هو متاحٌ له. بالأخصّ بعد وفاة زوجته، حيث يخفق في الحصول على علاقة ناجحة.
يُغرَم بماري، الممرّضة، لكنّه سرعان ما يتهرّب من العلاقة، ثمّ يحبّ ابنة خالته، شوشو، لكنّه يكتشف أنّ هنالك من يحبّها، ثمّ تدخل إلى دائرة العﻻقة فتاةٌ تحبّ إبراهيم وتنافس شوشو عليه، فيعاني من الارتباك تجاه هذه المنافسة، وينسحب.
