"الفوضى الرتيبة للوجود" مجموعة قصصية إرتكز فيها "هشام البستاني" على السخرية، عبرت عن رؤى الكاتب النقدية لتناقضات الواقع العربي وإرتهانه للخارج عند طفحة سياسية حاكمة تنتج عن سوء إدراتها الظلم والعنف وعبثية في طريق الحياة. في قصصه الرائعة هذه والتي تزيد عن أربعة عشرة قصة قصيرة، نقرأ إشكالية العلاقة ما بين السلطة والشعب، الرجل والمرأة، الممكن والمستحيل، يكتبها بأسلوب كاتب يملك قوة اللغة وجمال وجودة الصياغة. فضلاً عن سعة الإطلاع والمعرفة والتي تشكل خزاناً يستعمله حين يكتب. يقول في " المثقفون " وهي إحدى قصص مجموعته الرائعة هذه التي يفضح فيها الواقع العربي الراهن " لا ضير أن تأخذ فيزا ( مثلاُ ) من السفارة الإسرائيلية في عمان، ثم، حين ننغير الرياح وتتماقت الشموس، تعتصم على بابها مطالباً بطردها وتطهير المكان منها. لا بأس أن تحتج على إحتلال الولايات المتحدة للعراق، ثم تذهب بأموال المحتل نفسه عبر الأطلسي في برنامج الزائر الدولي للتعرف على " ثقافة العدو ". لا ضير أن تكون مع الفن المستقل تماماً عن السلطة وأدواتها وأعوانها، ثم تقبض نقود الإنتاج بالدولار من قنوات أرض السواد. الذات الكلية تستوعب كل شيء، تستوعب المتناقضات ". سوف نجد في ما يقول البستاني عزفاً منفرداً يتسامى إلى حدود الشعر وهذا هو المطلوب من الأدب الحديث – ما وراء الإنساني – المطلوب ثغرة في هواء التجربة، يغوص فيها الأدباء إلى العمق لنشهد معهم هذا الكون اللامتناهي الروعة، بكل تفاصيله وتعقيداته، كل ألوانه وأصواته وروائخه، وكل موجوداته، وأهم من كل هذا ناسه الإنسان هو حجر الزاوية، آلامه وأفراحه، نجاحاته وسقطاته، عبر عنها أديبنا، فكان خير من كتب وخير من أبدع.
