كانت حياتنا مليئة بالكذب. وحيداً لا يتغير. متفرداً وقوياً. إني أعرف، فالجميع كانوا يكذبون، الجميع كانوا يجعلون الخطأ صواباً، والصواب خطأ، وكانوا يستطيعون ذلك. لكن ما أريد قوله ليس هذا. ما أريد قوله هو أن الكذب صار واقعنا الوحيد، وأن إدراك ذلك لم يكن يغير في الوضع شيئاً. فقد كنا كالنمل النشيط نعيد إنشاءه وبناءه من جديد غريزياً، بمحبة وبسرعة، دون أن نعرف، ودون أن نسأل، ودون أن نفكر ونتساءل فنحن من أقمناه، ونحن من حميناه وصناه، بطبيعة الحال ليس هناك ما يقال، فقد كان هو نحن.
كنا نسأل مرة قبل أن نقر الى الدنيا: "هل أنت مقتنع؟" وكانت النفوس المصطفة تطلب روحاً للوفود الى هنا، تصرخ جميعاً بصوت واحد: "أجل!" عندها كانت الإرادة تضغط زر البداية وندخل جميعاً في طريق لا عودة منه. لا يعترضه عارض بعد ذلك. لم نكن نعرف أن ما يقال عنها الخطيئة الأولى هي في أصلها "الحماقة الأولى".
