عندما أفاق كريم الحاوي من نومه، وجد على الباب قبالته تمامًا وهو مستلقٍ على السرير، ما إن فتحَ عينيه واكتشف اليقظة وجد ورقة كبيرة ملصقة على الباب تمثـّلُ تصميمًا لغلاف رواية، كُتبَ عليها: ذيول الخيبة رواية تأليف كريم الحاوي. فاستلّ القلم، وكتب: عندما أفاق كريم الحاوي من نومه لم يجد ما يقوم به وهو دومًا عندما يفيق من نومه لا يجد ما يقوم به... فهو عندما يفيق من نومه لا يذهب إلى الحمّام، ولا يغتسل أو يحلق ذقنه أو يشرب القهوة أو يبدّل ملابسه، أو يرتّب سريره، أو.... أو يفعل ما يمكن أن يفعله عندما يفيق من نومه... إنـّه عندما يفيق من نومه، لا يكون لديه ما يقوم به، سوى أن يفيق... فما حكاية كريم الحاوي غريب الأطوار ؟ وما قصّة هذه الرواية التي تطارده كلعنة؟
