كان آخر قرارٍ مصيري اتخذه في حياته هو الهروب، قرر في لحظة فارقة أن يتخلى عن أحلام الثورة والتغيير الجذري بعد أن أحبطت تلك الآمال عند أول اختبار حقيقي، كفر بذلك العالم وبرموزه ونخبته ومنظّريه وكهنة معابده بعد أن امتلكوا أيامه ولياليه لسنوات، بعد دار في فلكهم وسار خلف مواكبهم معصوب العينين، اتبّع تقاليدهم وصدّق خرافاتهم، ابتهل أمام محاريبهم وذُبح على أنصابهم وحجّ إلى أوثانهم، أضاع شطر عمره هائمًا في دروبهم لا يعصي لهم أمرًا، فإلام أوصلوه؟ وجد نفسه فارغ القلب والوجدان، فارغ الروح كترس صغير في آلة أسطورية عرضها محيط خط الاستواء، ترس يدور فقط ليبقى داخل الآلة، لا يملك رفاهية التوقف عن الدوران وإلا دهسته التروس الأكبر ونثرته غبارًا مهملًا في الفضاء، يدور ويدور حتى ينسى من أين بدأ وإلى أين ينتهي، ليست للدائرة نقطة بداية ولا نقطة نهاية، كل نقاط الدائرة متطابقة، لا يوجد ما يميز نقطة عن مثيلاتها، كلها بلا لون ولا طعم ولكلها نفس البعد عن مركز الدائرة، لكن لا طريق يوصلك إلى ذلك المركز، ستظل تدور في الدائرة حتى تبتلعك، لن تصل أبدًا إلى أي نقطة خارجها، عفوًا، لا شيئ يمكن فعله لتغيير قوانين الهندسة."
