عرف الراحل صلاح حزيّن كاتباً ومثقفاً موسوعيّاً مقارباً موضوعات أدبيّة وسياسيّة وإقتصاديّة متنوّعة أحالته مرجعاً فكرياً بموازاة مرجعّيته الإنسانيّة بالغة العمق، على مدى عقود من العمل البحثيّ والإستقصائي والصحفي حرص صلاح على إغناء تجربته الفكريّة، سواء من خلال تقديمه قراءة نوعية تجعل النصّ قابلاً لقراءات فرعيّة، متشعّبة، أخرى، أو عبر تناوله، نقداً وكتابةً، نصوصاً أدبيّة، وفكريّة، ووضعها - دون حشر - في سياقات تأويليّة تعيد إنتاجها.
غادر صلاح الحياة في الأوّل من أغسطس / آب 2009، وقد ترك خلفه فرقاً في معنى الوجود، ولأن صلاح غادرنا على عجل، ترك لنا المصباح الجانبيّ، في مكتبه مضيئاً على أوراق وكلمات لم تفقد ألقها حتّى وهي تندب رفيقاً أجلّها، تاهت كلمات، وضاعت أخرى، لكنت ما تبقّى منها، وهو كثير، أنصف بعضاً من حياة صلاح الغنيّة الكريمة.
"إضاءات على الأدب الإسرائيليّ الحديث" كتاب أراد صلاح أن يحقّقه في حياته، وقطعاً كان سيقدّمه بطريقة أخرى، لكن ليثق الراحل، وهو المقيم الآن في عالم يظلّل روحه، أنَّنا حاولنا، بكلّ ما ندين له به من حبّ وحماسّة ووفاء، أن تقدّم جانباً من فكره بأفضل صيغة تليق به ضمن الممكن والمتاح، إنّ صلاح، الّذي لم يأخذه تيه أو خيلاء في المعرفة، كان متواضعاً متحصّناً من أيّة "قداسة" مزعومة للرأي، وكان سيغفر لنا أن أخطأنا أو تجاوزنا... أضفنا أو حذفنا.
عدد قليل من الكتّاب والنقاد، في وطننا العربيّ، تأتّى لهم الخوض في أدب "إشكاليّ" كالأدب الإسرائيليّ، وهي إشكاليّة تبدأ من مصطلح "الإسرائيليّ" وتنتهي بالمضامين والطروحات التي لا يمكن أن تفلت من التأطير الأيديولوجي، وإذا كان صلاح حزين قارب هذه الإشكاليّة بداية من منطلق الطرح الشائع: "اعرف عدوّك"، فقد خلص بوعيه المعمّق إلى أنّ مقاربة كهذه تميط اللثام عن الذات الفلسطينيّة الّتي سعى الآخر [العدوّ الإسرائيليّ هنا] إلى تقزيمها أو تشويهها أو إلغائها أو التعاطي معها بإدّعاء الموضوعيّة، وفي النهاية ظلّت الذات الفلسطينيّة، رغم محاولات العدوّ الإقصائيّة، قائمةً بقوّة، وعملاقة بطريقتها.
