إن الدراسات اليابانية كحقل أكاديمي مستقل بذاته هي أحد علوم الإنسانيات الذي لم ينل حقه في الأوساط العلمية العربية، حيث تفقر جامعاتنا إلى معاهد وأقسام الدراسات المتخصصة بهذا العلم المعرفي الذي يشتمل على مجالات التاريخ والحضارة واللغة والدين والفلسفة والفنون والموسيقى وعلم الاجتماع وحتى التكنولوجيا. من هنا كانت صعوبة مهمة الاستكشاف والتعمق، ومن ثم محاولة تقديم رؤية عربية عن تلك الحضارة الآسيوية العريقة، بخاصة في لحظة مواجهتها للانكسار وتعاملها الديناميكي مع الاحتلال سعيا للعودة السريعة إلى الاستقلال. لقد أتمت السلطات اليابانية مهمتها القومية النبيلة بسرعة قياسية، فلم تكد تمضي سبع سنوات من هيمنة المقر العام لسلطة الاحتلال على مقادير القرار في طوكيو، حتى عادت للدولة اليابانية سيادتها على معظم أراضيها وقرارها السيادي الحر التام.
