في واقع الأمر ما الرسائل إلا تواصل مع الأشباح. ولم يكن هذا التواصل مع شبح المخاطب فقط على الاطلاق، بل إنما يتعدى ذلك ليكون مع شبح الشخص ذاته، والذي يتطور سرّاً داخل الرسالة التي يكتبها ذلك الشخص".. هكذا يكشف كافكا في رسائله عن صوت أكثر ذاتية ونقاوة وألماً من أعماله الباقية، إذ لم يكشف في أي من أعماله الأخرى عن نفسه مثلما فعل في رسائله إلى ميلينا والتي بدات كرسائل عمل ثم تطورت إلى رسائل حب.يبدو هنا كافكا متخلياً عن صرامته الفنية وقوانين كتاباته الكابوسية لصالح بث هواجسه الإنسانية العميقة والمؤثرة من خوف وأمل وبعد وقطيعة وحرمان وأحلام، الرسائل هي الطوق الذي استنجد به الكاتب ليعالج صراعاته واضطراب شخصيته الهشة. إنها نشيد عذاب انساني غير مفلتر يهدر بنشيج الروح المعذبة للحبيبة بعيداً عن صالونات الأدب وصرامة قوانين النقد وأقلام المراجعين. وقد تكون خير نافذة لعشاق الكاتب ممن يحب التعرّف على "كواليس" حياة الكاتب والحديقة الداخلية لتفكيره.
