فرانتس كافكا (3 يوليو 18883 – 3 يونيع 1924) الكاتب التشيكي العظيم، أحد علامات الأدب الكبرى، ليس في الأدب الألماني فحسب، وإنما في الأدب العالمي. ولد في عاصمة التشيك براغ حين كانت ضمن الإمبراطورية النمساوية المجرية، وصف بأنه رائد الكتابة الفلسفية الكابوسية، وعرفت لغة كتابته الأدبية، الألمانية، بأنها بارعة وفائقة الدقة والجمال. قضى مرض سل الرئة على جسده، لكن أدبه ضمن له الخلود. يأتي كتاب "رسائل إلى ميلينا" في مقدمة كتب أدب الرسائل في العالم. في رسائل كافكا إلى ميلينا، كان كافكا مشغولًا انشغالًا بالغًا بنقل أعمق مشاعره إلى إنسان آخر، وكانت ميلينا، التي قامت بترجمة بعض قصصه من اللغة الألمانية إلى اللغة التشيكية، امرأة مرموقة لتميزها بميزات عدة. لكن السؤال: هل كانت من ضمن ميزاتها أنها المرأة التي أحبها كافكا أم لا؟ وكان الوسط الذي تتحرك في إطاره ميلينا ككاتبة صحفية، تحرر أبواب الموضة إلى جانب كتاباتها الإبداعية القصصية وترجماتها، هو الوسط الأدبي في فيينا في السنوات التالية مباشرة لعام 1918.
