في رواية «كن حذراً عندما تتمنى» ينقلنا الروائي "جيفري أرشير" إلى مستوى جديد من الصراع بين الرائد أليكس فيشر ودون بدرو مارتينيز من جهة وبين آل كليفتون وبارينغتون من جهة أخرى. فـدون بدرو يبدو أنه عازم على الثأر، ويريد أن يجعل من شركة النقل بارينغتون وسفينتها الجديدة باكينغهام مسرحاً لثأره، ولكن دخول الجيش الجمهوري الإيرلندي والمصرفي سيدريك هاردكاسل سيجعلان من الكباش المحتدم يأخذ منحىً آخر لا يتوقعه الطرفان. في هذه الرواية، يظهر سيباستيان كشخصية يعوّل عليها عائلياً ومهنياً وعاطفياً. وبتدخل شركة سوني أنترناشنل اليابانية في أحداث الرواية وتحوّل مصير جيسكيا بطريقة غير متوقعة لا يسعنا سوى قول شيء واحد؛ إنها رواية تحبس الأنفاس حتى الجملة الأخيرة منها. من أجواء الرواية نقرأ: "انتظرت إيما جلوس الملكة الأم قبل أن تشق طريقها إلى المنبر لتلقي خطاباً لم يتطلب وجود ملاحظات، لأنها حفظته عن ظهر قلب. (...). "جلالتك، هذه زيارتك الثالثة إلى مرسى سفن بريستول. جئت إلى هنا أول مرة كملكتنا عام 1939، حين احتفلت الشركة بذكراها المئوية، وكان جدي الأكبر رئيس مجلس الشركة. ثم زرتنا مجدداً عام 1942، لتري بنفسك الضرر الناتج عن الغارات خلال الحرب، واليوم أنت هنا لترحبي بإطلاق سفينة سميت باسم المقر الذي عشت فيه على مدى الأعوام الستة عشر الماضية. بالمناسبة يا سيدتي: إن احتجت إلى مكان للمكوث اللليلة – استُقبلت كلمات إيما بضحك حار – "لدينا مئتان واثنان وتسعون غرفة، مع أنني أشعر أنه عليّ إخبارك أنك فوتِ فرصة للانضمام إلينا على متن الرحلة الأولى، لأن جميع التذاكر قد بيعت".
