من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"جثى خروتشوف على ركبتيه، ووضع يديه حول حلق ستالين وخنقه، كافح ستالين لدقائق، بينما ثبته كل من بيريا ومالينكوف.. بمجرد تأكدهم من موته، غادروا الغرفة وأقفلوا الباب خلفهم. أصدر بيريا على الفور أمراً بإطلاق النار على جميع حراس ستالين الشخصيين، الستة عشر منهم، حتى لا يكون هناك شهودٌ على ما حدث. لم يتم إبلاغ أحدٍ بوفاة ستالين حتى صدر الإعلان الرسمي بعد عدة ساعاتٍ، الذي قمت بترجمته وادعى أنّه مات بسكتةٍ دماغيةٍ أثناء عمله في مكتبه في الكرملين. في الحقيقة خنقه خروتشوف وتُرك ملقى في بركةٍ من بوله لعدة ساعاتٍ قبل إخراج جسده من المنزل الريفي...". يُشار إلى أن رواية "القلم أمضى من السيف" هي الجزء الخامس من سلسلة روايات صدرت عن الدار العربية للعلوم ناشرون للروائي جيفري أرشير وهي "وحده الوقت يكشف الحقيقة"، "خطايا الأب"، "من الأفضل كتمان السر"، و"كن حذراً عندما تتمنى".
