فرانتس كافكا (3 يوليو 1883 - 3 يونيو 1924) الكاتب التشيكي العظيم، أحد علامات الأدب الكبرى، ليس في الأدب الألماني فحسب، وإنما في الأدب العالمي. ولد في عاصمة التشيك براغ حين كانت ضمن الإمبراطبورية النمساوية المجرية، وصف بأنه رائد الكتابة الفلسفية الكابوسية، وعرفت لغة كتابته الأدبية الألمانية بأنها بارعة وفائقة الدقة والجمال. قضى مرض سل الرئة على جسده لكن أدبه ضمن له الخلود. في قصة التحول، وبقية قصص هذا الكتاب، يصبح القارئ أمام قصص تمثل أزمة وجود، وتشير إلى انقسام يقع نتيجة لتراكمات عدة فيفصل بين الوعي واللاوعي، ويصبح الاغتراب الإنساني أساساً في قصص كافكا الشيقة الممتعة المدهشة بخيالها الجامح من ناحية وبفلسفة وثقلفة كافكا من ناحية أخرى. ثمة خاصية تتمثل في قصص لكافكا، اتخذ فيها السرد صيغة الجمع "نحن"، بدلاً من السرد من زاوية المفرد المتكلم "أنا"."لكن لم يكن قد جال ببال غريغور أنه سيُخيف أحدًا ما، وعلى الخصوص أخته. فهو كان، فحسب، قد بدأ يستدير ليلتحق بغرفته، لكن حركته تلك نتج عنها أمر مثير، فنظرًا لسوء حالته، وجد نفسه مضطرًا، من أجل إتمام نصف الدورة، أن يستعين بتحريك رأسه، وهكذا كان يرفعه، المرة تلو الأخرى، لكنّ رأسه، في كل مرة، كان يسقط ويرتطم بالأرضية. وتوقف غريغور، وأجال بصره حواليه. وبدا له أن نواياه الحسنة قد اتضحت".
