وأجمل ما في هذا الزمن هو رحابة الأفق الذي يقترن بالحياة في عالم التقدم الغربي. صحيح أن التقدم لم يعد مقصورا على الغرب فحسب، فهناك نصف العالم الآسيوي الجديد، إذا استخدمنا عنوان كتاب كيشور محبوباني، خصوصا بعد أن تهاوت سطوة المركزية الأوربية-الأمريكية، وتحول «الآخر» إلى «آخرين». لكن العلاقة مع «الآخر» -أيا كان- هي علاقة تسهم في تطوير الوعي بالهوية، فالأنا لا تكتمل معرفتها بنفسها إلا بمعرفتها بغيرها، فردا أو جمعا، والانتقال من عالم «الأنا» إلى عالم «الهو» يفتح أفق «الأنا» على معرفة بلا حدود. بقيت ملاحظة ختامية عن طبيعة ما أقوم به في هذا الكتاب، فهو ليس تسجيلًا للذكريات الشخصية فحسب، وإنما هو محاولة للجمع ما بين الذكرى الشخصية والذاكرة العلمية، في سياق لا يخلو من الإشارة السياسية. والحق أنني أردت أن أنقل إلى قارئ هذا الكتاب بعض ما تعلمته وما لاحظته على السواء، وما أسعدني شخصيا، وما أثراني أكاديميا. أعني لكل ما يجعلني أتطلع إلى زمن الذكريات الذاتية والعلمية بنوع من فرحة الحنين وعرفان المغترب بحثا عن معارف جديدة لا نهاية لتغير مجاليها واحتمالاتها.
