Book Description
تتحدث الرواية عن قصة "أصغر" الذي نشأ في بيت أمه المتواجد بمنطقة البلد التراثية بمدينة جدة.
يصف السرد مصاعب الحياة التي واجهها كل من الشاب وأمه بعد أن هجرهم والده دون أن يترك وسيلة للوصول إليه.
تنعزل الأم في بيتها دون أن تخرج منه أبدا، حيث تعتكف على مكنة الخياطة لإعالة البيت، بينما يخرج ابنها لللحياة بجسده الصغير كي يساعدها على توصيل البضائع إلى أصحابها.
تلازم أصغر بعض الهواجس الناتجة عن فقدانه لوالده و جسده الصغير، فقد ولد أصغر خديجا وانحبس لبن أمه في صدرها، مما جعله صغير الحجم -حيث لم يصل طوله في عز شبابه للمتر و النصف- وكان دوما ما يتابع الظلال المتزاحمة من حوله في الحارة في حالة من الرعب، وكان ينوي أن ينعزل عن الناس مثل أمه، لولا أنه تعرف على صديقه يحيى الذي اتخذ منه أصغر طول النجاة والتي لا يفارقها طوال سيره في حياته.
ويتعرض أصغر للمأزق الكبير في حياته عندما يموت صديقه يحيى في حادث سير أمام عينه، ويتخذ منحا جديد مليء بالمواقف الغريبة التي تدله ببطء إلى حقيقة والده.
