مؤلف الكتاب كينيث وليام فورد, فيزيائي نظري أمريكي, ولد عام 1926, في منتصف العصر الذهبي للفيزياء, وبذلك يكون قد عاصر العديد من عمالقة الفيزياء الذين قدموا أهم الأفكار التي عرفها العلم على الإطلاق. حصل على درجة الدكتوراة من جامعة برينستون عام 1953 تحت إشراف جون ويلر. كان أول رئيس لقسم الفيزياء في جامعة كاليفورنيا, وعمل في وقت لاحق رئيسا لمعهد نيو مكسيكو للتعدين والتكنولوجيا. تولى منصب مدير المعهد الأمريكي للفيزياء, وقد عمل في العديد من المختبرات والمعاهد والجامعات المرموقة. له العديد من الأبحاث في مجال الفيزياء النووية وهو الآن متقاعد ويعمل كاتبا حيث له العديد من الكتب في مجال الفيزياء منها كتاب: الجيونات، الثقوب السوداء، ورغوة الكم: حياة في الفيزياء, جون ويلر وكينيث فورد.
