تنبع أهمية رواية "غادة الأساطير الحالمة"، التي يجب أن يستفاد منها كثيراً الآن، من كونها محاولة متميزة وبحث جديد يخرج عما هو مألوف في الرواية العربية ليشق لها طريقاً مستقبلياً آخر، وذلك يقودنا إلى سؤال مهم: ما هو الطابع العام للرواية السائدة الآن، وبصفة خاصة تلك التي يكتبها الشباب؟
تشير الخطوط العامة التي تحكم الإنتاج الروائي الراهن إلى أن الرواية الراهنة إما أن تكون رواية سياسية مباشرة، تصطنع المعارضة وتعلن الرفض السلبي، أو كتابة تعتمد على المجاهرة بمحرمات الجنس والاستهانة بضوابط المجتمع والدين، أو نصوصاً مغلقة على نفسها لا تكاد تفهم احتماء بغموض الرموز واستغلاق الهدف. برز ذلك كبديل عن الرواية التقليدية التي تتضمن نقداً اجتماعياً ومنحى إصلاحياً كما تجلى ذلك في عقدي الخمسينيات والستينيات من القرن المنصرم لدى نجيب محفوظ في ثلاثيته ولدى آخرين من جيله.
وقد غير محمد العشري نمط الرواية الاجتماعية، لكنه لم يقع في فخ الهجاء السياسي أو الكتابة الجنسية، أو التعرض للقيم الدينية، ولم يلجأ إلى الضبابية، وبهذا يكون قد شق لنا طريقاً جديداً واتصل بالتراث في شكل فني جديد، إضافة إلى أنه يقدم تجارب غرائبية د\ي\ة ومدهشة، بالرغم من أنه لا يزال في بداياته الإبداعية، وهو يكتب بأسلوب شعري رائق وجميل.
إن هذه الرواية "غادة الأساطير الحالمة" تعتبر محاولة أولى لكاتبها الشاب محمد العشري، وإنني لأرى فيها بداية قوية ومبشرة، تدل على اتجاه فني ينتسب إليه ويؤطر إبداعاته القادمة التي سيتميز بها لاحقاً ككاتب مبدع يملك مشروعاً، ورؤية، وأسلوباً، وهذا ما نطمئن إليه ونتوقع الكثير من إلهامات خياله الشعري المتوهج.
