الأزياء الشعبية : بأنها هى الأزياء الخاصة بالعامة من القرويين أو سكان الريف بصفة عامة والطبقات الشعبية فى المدن ، وهى أزياء تتصف بمجاراة العرف والتقاليد والنظم الاجتماعية وتنسب للجماعة الشعبية فهى تبتدع بشكل وذوق فطرى . ويعتبر أسلوب تنفيذ الأزياء الشعبية خلاصة المهارة اليدوية فالانسان الشعبى وإن كان ابن الطبيعة إلا أنه فى نفس الوقت سيدها فهو ينطلق بخياله ليبتكر ويبدع فى أزياءه . وتمتاز الأزياء الشعبية فى معظم البلاد بالطابع الزخرفى فمهما أختلفت الأجناس والأقطار فهناك ظاهرة تجمع بين مظاهر هذا الذوق الفطرى للشعوب كلها فالوحدات الهندسية المستخدمة فى التطريز والنقش والحليات والدلايات تتشابه فى معظم البلاد إلى حد بعيد فالذوق الشعبى شغوف بالألوان الزاهية والبراقة وكأن هناك لغة موحدة يتحدث بها جميع البشر هى لغة الزخارف التى تتداخل طارة فى تزاحم شديد وتفترق طارة أخرى فى براءة وكأن الذين يصممونها أطفال صغار والأزياء الشعبية لها طابع يجعلها دائماً مرتبطة بالتراث القديم فمعظم الأزياء الشعبية يمكن ارجاع مصادرها للعصور الفرعونية وبعضها يقارب العصور اليونانية والرومانية والبعض الآخر يتصل بالطرز الإسلامية على اختلاف أنواعها إذ أن الأزياء الشعبية ليست وليدة المصادفة بل تمتد جذورها للحضارات القديمة لذلك لابد وأن نقتفى آثارها ونقف على مصادرها فهى تعبير فنى مباشر عن البيئة المحلية وهى جزء من التراث لما لها من اتصال مباشر بالإنسان فى كل زمان ومكان فهى بحق المرآة التى تعبر عن جوانب الحياة المرتبطة بالشخص الذى يرتديه لأن الناظر يرى من خلالها عادات وتقاليد وفنون الأفراد بل يمكن معرفة رتبة مرتديها ووصفه الاجتماعى من خلالها كما أن الأزياء الشعبية تلخص لنا التراث القديم وتوضح مدى ارتباطه بالحالة السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية للأفراد ونظام الحكم.
