"دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة" هو الكتاب الأول من نوعه، عن منظمة لا تزال بكراً في البحث عن مكانها التاريخي والسياسي في العصر الحديث.
يؤرخ المؤلف في هذا الكتاب نشأة دولة الإمارات، فيسبر أغوار التاريخ، ويستقرئ أحداثه ويعتبر بوقائعه، فلا يأخذه هوى، أو ميل شخصي، إنما يحرص على الموضوعية التي توقظ في المؤرخ القدرة على إستشفاف العبرة، وإستخلاص الحقيقة التي يمكن الإفادة منها في المستقبل.
وكون الموضوع حديثاً حداثة نشأة الإمارات العربية المتحدة نفسها، عاد المؤلف إلى جذور الخليج العربي أثناء العصور القديمة (العهد السومري، العهد الفينيقي)، فالخليج أثناء العصور الإسلامية الزاهية، ومن ثم الخليج في عصر الإستعمار، فلمحة جغرافية تتناول الخصائص المناخية والتكوين الجيولوجي، ودراسة لكل إمارة بذاتها، ثم دراسات مفصلة لإنشاء إتخاد الإمارات، والمبادئ الرئيسية لتكوين الدولة الإتحادية، والمؤسسات الدستورية، والعلاقات الخارجية للدولة الإتحادية، عربياً ودولياً، فالحياة الإجتماعية والفكرية والإقتصادية، وبذلك يكون الكتاب أحاط بهذه المنطقة من كل جوانبها.
ولا يهمل الكتاب الدور التأثيري للخليج العربي، في التاريخ المعاصر، فيعرض لمجمل الظروف التاريخية والسياسية المتعلقة بالخليج العربي ذلك الجزء الأكثر بروزاً وتمايزاً، من أجزاء العالم العربي، في هذه المرحلة الأكثر حساسية وتحولاً على الصعيدين العربي والدولي.
