"انتفضت في فراشي وارتديت على عجل الشورت والتي شرت، وعندما دخلت إلى حجرتها أغلقت الباب خلفي بالمفتاح، وجدتها جالسة القرفصاء على فراشها، وكانت تتأمل مجموعة من الكارت بوستال عن مصر، قالت (لماذا أغلقت الباب خلفك؟) قلت (سأشك في ذكائك)، فضحكت. كنت قد ركعت إلى جوار الفراش، بطريقة تسمح لي بوضع رأسي على أحد فخذيها، قالت (أنت مثل قط وديع) وتنهدت ثم مدت يدها القريبة من رأسي لتربت عليها. قلت (لماذا غادرت مكانك إلى جواري أثناء السهرة؟) قالت (خفت أن تتمادى. وأنا أفضل السرية)، ثم أضافت (ثم أنه اختبار بسيط لمعرفة ردود أفعالك، لمعرفة حقيقتك عن طريق ردود أفعالك، لمعرفة إن كنت رجلاً حراً، تترك لي حرية الاختيار، أم أنك تريد فقط أن تضمني إلى حريم السلطان)، احترمت وجهة نظرها.
