يقول المؤلف في معرض تقديمه لهذا الكتاب: "... كان نمط "السفر الخليجي" يحتم علينا التعالي على الآخرين، وصرف آلاف الدنانير على الفنادق والمقاهي دون أن نعرف عن أهل البلد شيئاً، فنحن نبحث عن الجو الجميل والمقاهي ذات المواقع الإستراتيجية التي تؤهلنا أن نشاهد بعضنا بعضاً، دون أن نسافر في قلوب القوم وعقولهم.
فكانت هذه السفرة الأولى بالنسبة لي التي أكون فيها غريباً، غريباً من المقام الأول، أدركت أني كنت أعيش مسجوناً طوال عمري، بيني وبين الطبيعة قضبان... التقيت هنا بقبائل من النجوم لم تترك موضع شبرٍ فارغ في السماء، جبال من الأمواج الموسيقية المهدئة للفكر، رمال ناعمة تنجح في تدليكك، كنت محروماً من ذلك كله، فنحن - أقصى ما نفعله - هو مشاهدة الطبيعة، لا الدخول فيها...".
وهكذا يستمر المؤلف في وصف شعوره عند كل محطة يتوقف فيها في تلك البلدان التي زارها، ويختتم مؤلَّفه بالقول: "واستغفر المدن التي كتبت عنها ولم أوفها حقها، لأني ركزت على علاقاتي الإنسانية ورحلاتي في عقول وقلوب البشر أكثر من الرحلة الوصفية، فالمدن ستبقى والبشر راحلون، لذا أحببت أن أخلَّد الراحلين أكثر...".
هذا، وقد تضمن الكتاب خرائط لكل بلد زاره المؤلف وصور ومعلومات عامة وقصص جمعت المؤلف بأهل تلك البلدان.
