"تُمثل الصحافة الإقليمية والمحلية لونًا متميزًا من الصحافة لا غنى عنه في المجتمعات المتقدمة والنامية على السواء، ذلك أنها بمثابة حلقة وصل بين المواطنين الذين يعيشون في الأقاليم والمجتمعات المحلية وبعضهم بعضًا، وهي كذلك حلقة وصل بين مواطني الأقاليم والمجتمعات المحلية وبين وطنهم الأم، ثم بينهم وبين العالم الإنساني- البشري والمجتمع الدولي، إذ على الرغم من أهمية الصحف القومية، ونقصد بها الصحف المركزية التي تصدر في العاصمة وتوزع في كل أنحاء الدولة وربما خارجها أيضًا، وسواء كانت صحفًا حكومية أو حزبية أو خاصة، عامة أو متخصصة، فإنه يظل لوجود الصحف الإقليمية والمحلية أهميتها وضرورتها، حيث تكون أكثر معرفة بالإقليم وأكثر وعيًا بالمجتمع المحلي الذي تصدر فيه، كما أنها تكون أكثر فهمًا لمواطني الإقليم واحتياجاتهم المجتمعية المتنوعة السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية.
