"يُمثل هذا الكتاب فى حقيقته جهداً متواضعاً يقدمه الباحث / المؤلف، متمنياً أن يمثل إضافة حقيقية للمكتبة الإعلامية المصرية، وأن يُضاف إلى عدد غير قليل من الدراسات والمؤلفات التى سبق وأن قدمها أساتذة أجلاء فى هذا المجال منذ عشرات السنين، وهم لا يزالون يقدمون لنا الجديد، لنقرأ لهم ونتعلم منهم.
يأتى هذا الكتاب فى بابين..
حيث يتناول الباب الأول منهما تعريفاً بالمنهج التاريخى المُستخدم فى البحوث والدراسات التاريخية عامة، وبحوث ودراسات تاريخ الصحافة على وجه الخصوص. لاسيما وأن دراسات تاريخ الصحافة تمثل أحد أقدم الحقول البحثية فى مجال الدراسات الإعلامية، إن لم تكن أقدمها، وهو حقل بحثى لايزال له مريديه إلى اليوم، لاسيما وأنه مجال بحثى يتسع لإجراء المزيد من البحوث والدراسات.
وعندى أن تاريخ الصحافة هو فى حقيقته تاريخ الوطن، وهو بالتالى يفيدنا فى فهم وإدراك التاريخ الاجتماعى للوطن ومواطنيه، فتاريخ الصحافة هو جزء أصيل من ذاكرة أية أمة، وحافظ لها، فى نواحى تاريخها السياسى والاقتصادى والاجتماعى.
وفى محاولة للإبحار فى تاريخ من يصنع التاريخ، فإن الباب الثانى من الكتاب يُقدم، وفى اجتهاد ومساهمة متواضعة من قبل الباحث، تعريفاً بالمفكر المصرى سلامة موسى، كأحد الذين ساهموا فى صناعة الصحافة المصرية فى القرن العشرين، ذلك بالإضافة إلى قراءة فى مقالات سلامة موسى الافتتاحية بمجلته (المصرى)، وهى المجلة التى أصدرها بمدينة القاهرة خلال الفترة من 5 سبتمبر إلى 4 ديسمبر من سنة 1930م، وكان سلامة موسى يكتب هذه المقالات الافتتاحية تحت عنوان (افتتاحية المحرر).
ولعله ليس غريباً أن نقول أن سلامة موسى يُعد واحداً من أبرز الصحفيين المصريين - ربما منذ نشأة الصحافة المصرية وطوال تاريخها الممتد إلى اليوم، إذ ساهم سلامة موسى وشارك - مع غيره من الصحفيين والمفكرين المصريين - فى إثراء الصحافة المصرية خصوصاً والفكر المصرى عموماً، فقد آمن بضرورة الـوصــول إلى الرأى العـــام ومخاطبته فى المجتمع المصرى بأكمله، وكان ذلك من خلال تأليف الكتب والعمل بالصحافة من خلال الكتابة فى الصحف إلى جانب إصداره لعدد من الصحف على مختلف أشكالها وتنوع مضامينها.
