في هذا الكتاب، حول الماركسية الغربية وما بعدها، سوف تكتشف بطرق عدّة وعلى مناهج مختلفة، أنّ ماركس، مختبر خطير، ووعد جميل، واسم غامض يخفي في تجاعيده العميقة ثلاثة ملامح متناقضة: ماركس "البطل" وماركس "الكارثة "و ماركس "الضحية". فماركس "البطل" هو ذاك الذي أهدى إلى الفقراء حلما كبيرا بإمكانية تفسير العالم لصالحهم. وماركس "الكارثة" هو ذاك الذي تحوّل اسمه الكبير تشريعا فاشيا تحت راية ستالين حيث سُفكت الدماء واغتيلت الأحلام الثورية وتحوّل حلم المحرومين إلى كابوس للثورة المغدورة. وماركس "الضحية "هو الذي وقع اغتياله مرّات عديدة في أسماء أخرى هي أسماء الذين انتسبوا اليه دفاعا عن حقوق المعدمين والمسحوقين والمهمّشين، منذ اغتيال روزا لكسمبورغ (1871 -1919) المنظّرة والفيلسوفة الماركسية بولندية الأصل سنة 1919، إلى اغتيال تروتسكي سنة 1941، ثمّ تشي جيفارا سنة 1965. ومن الماركسيين العرب نذكر خاصّة اغتيال مهدي عامل وحسين مروة سنة 1987 وأخيرا اغتيال شكري بلعيد سنة 2013. بالإضافة إلى اضطهاد وسجن العديد من كبار الماركسيين والما بعد ماركسيين مثل غرامشي ونيغري..
