في هذا الكِتاب يقوم المؤلِّف باستعراض ذلك الموضوع الشائك. إن موضوع الخوارِج لم يقتصر على الذين خرجوا على الإمام عليّ -رضي الله عنه- وإنما استمر حتى العصور المُتأخرة للإسلام والتي نعاصرها، وسيستمر حتى خروج المسيح الدَّجَّال كما قال ذلك رسولنا -صلى الله عليه وسلم-. فتقرأ في هذا الكِتاب عن ذِكر الخروج والخوارج في اللُّغة وعند عُلماء الاصطلاح وذِكر الخوارج في السُّنة النبوية والأسماء التي أُطلقت على الخوارج وعُرِفوا بها، ومن هو أول الخوارج ظهوراً في العصر النبوي (ذو الخويصرة)، ثُم بداية نشأة الخوارج كجماعة ثُم الحديث عن فِرَق الخوارِج وأهم الفِرَق عند كُتَّاب الفِرَق القُدَامى. وتقرأ عن الخوارِج الأوائل في عهد الإمام علي -رضي الله عنه- وظهورهم الأول كجماعة في معركة صفين ومُناظرة الصحابي عبد الله بن عباس -رضي الله عنهما- لهم عام 38 هـ. وتقرأ عن خروجات وثورات الخوارِج على الخُلفاء الأمويين وخُلفاء بني العباس، وأهم عقائد الخوارِج، وثوراتهم في المغرب العربي وفرقهم هناك. وعن الأباضية، وأهم صِفات الخوارِج عموماً وصِفاتهم من خِلال الأحاديث النبوية وصفاتهم عند علماء العصر، وآرائهم في المُجتمع الإسلامي قديماً وحديثاً والرد عليهم. وكذلك آراء العُلماء في تكفير الخوارج أو عدم تكفيرهم، والجهة التي يخرجون منها آخر الزمان مع الفِتَن وأسباب خروجهم قديماً وحديثاً وعلاقتهم بعلامات الساعة الصُغرى.
