له في الرواية "بناية ماتيلد" و"غناء البطريق" و"لعب حيّ البياض" و"ماكياج خفيف لهذه الليلة".
وفي القصّة "تحت شرفة أنجي" و"نزهة الملاك".
ترجمت رواياته إلى الإنكليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والإيطالية.
ولد حسن داوود سنة 1951، وهو يعمل صحفي في اليومية البيروتية "المستقبل"، درس الأدب العربي بالجامعة اللبنانية في بيروت.
ظهرت أوّل رواية له باللغة الفرنسية بعنوان "ضيعة ماتلدا" سنة 1998، وتبعتها رواية ثانية بعنوان "الأيام الأخيرة"، وهي دراسة نفسية عميقة حول الشيخوخة.

بناية ماتيلد عالمٌ شخصياته تلك القادمة من خلف جدرانه عتيقة، تسير في زمان خارج الزمان كما هي بناية ماتيلد... فتأتي الأحداث بعد أن كانت هاجعة أيقظها خيال حسن داوود فجاءت تتمطى متثائبة في ثنايا السطورالتي عجّت بالوصف فسرّت معانيها مجتمعة صوراً يكتظ بها ألبوم حسن داوود العتيق... صور متفرقة للبناية التي تئن أحجارها من وطء السنين... بأدراجها الرمادية ودرابزينها الحديدي الأسود الذي بُري وقدّ سطحاً بالياً وندياً تنبعث منه رطوبة الأكفّ التي كانت تلتصق فيه. وبشرفاتها وحماماتها وردهاتها العتيقة.
وأما ساكنوها فلكلّ حكايته يروح واحد ويجيء آخر وتتابع البناية حركة الزمان لتشهد بساكنيها على أحداث الحرب اللبنانية.. درج يهوي وشرفة تنهار.. ودرابزين يبقى معلّق بالهواء.. وسكان معلقون بين السماء والأرض.. تمضي الأحداث ببناية ماتيلد.. ويمضي سكانها إلى زمن لم يعد يقف من الساكنين على النوافذ الكبيرة التي تضيء الدرج وتفصل الطوابق.. كانت عمتي وحدها في البناية".. وكأن كلتاهما تسطّر للأخرى تاريخها.
تدور أحداث الرواية حول ساكني بناية وعيشهم في زمن ما قبل الحرب اللبنانية وما بعدها.
لم تخرج بناية ماتيلد منذ صدورها سنة 1983 عن دائرة اهتمام الكتاب والقراء. فإضافة إلى استمرار تداولها في جامعات لبنان وخارجه دراسةً وتحليلاً، فقد جرى تبنيها مرجعاً لمعرفة لبنان في حربه الأهلية.
