تموت زوجته في تفجير إرهابي في فرنسا ليمتزج دمها بأقلام الرصاص التي حملتها له كهدية. يعود عمران إلى اليمن الذي اتحد شمالاً وجنوباً، مدينة صباه التي سلبته فيها نظرات المراهقة فاتن ولقاءاتهما الحميمة الصامتة، والتي علّمته فيها «الدكتورة» أبجدية الحياة الجنسية.
تندلع ثورة فبراير في اليمن فينزل إلى الساحات حاملاً أحلاماً قديمة وفكراً علمانياً متنوّراً..
رواية تخوض في المحرّم لِتحكي واقع اليمن المعاصر وتاريخ عدن وهي تتحوّل إلى مدينة مقهورة منقّبة، بعد أن كان لها من اسم الجنّة نصيب.
والجدير ذكره أن هذه الرواية قد اختيرت ضمن القائمة الطويلة للجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية (البوكر).
