كانت الشمس ترسل أشعتها الهادئة في يوم من أيام أكتوبر الساكنة حين وقفت فتاة في ريعان الشباب بسيارتها أمام فيلا صغيرة فى الحي القديم بالمعادي. نزلت الفتاه على عجل منسيارتها ودقت جرس المنزل.. ثم لملمت خصلات شعرها المتدلي منها لتمسح العرق المتصبب من حول عنقها الجميل، وانتظرت قليلًا حتى فتحت لها سيدة فى منتصف العمر، بدت علامات الفرح على صاحبة المنزل عندما وقعت عيناها على الفتاة، وقالت لها فى ترحاب شديد وهي تحتضنها:
- أهلا ندى.. إزيك يا حبيبتى وحشانى.
قالت ندي بسرور:
- إزيك يا خالتى إنتِ اللى وحشانى جدًا، أنا ما صدقت خلصت الشغل بدرى النهارده وقلت لازم أشوفك.
- خير ما عملتى.. تعالى يا حبيبتى، ادخلى.
دخلت ندي في صحبة خالتها إلى المنزل الصغير، كان هادئًا، مرتبًا كما اعتادت عليه، ثم قادتها خالتها إلى غرفة الطعام حيث كان يجلس ابنها (هشام) ليتناول غذاءه، ثم قالت الخالةوهي تنظر إلي ندي:
- تلاقيكى على لحم بطنك من الصبح، تعالى افتحى نِفس هشام واتغدى معانا.
