عندما كنت صغيرة تعلمت في المدرسة أنني عندما أجد إنسانًا في شدة، من إعاقة أو مصيبة، أن أقول: «الحمد لله الذي عافاني مما ابتلى به غيري...»، ولكن ظل السؤال داخلي: «ألا يعد أنانية تصل إلى حد الجبن أن أكون ممتنة فقط لأني نجوت مما ابتُلِيَ به غيري؟». لذا قررت أن يكون شكري لله، في العمل على ألا يُبْتَلى غيري وينعم كل إنسان امرأة أو رجلاً بما أنهم الله على البشرية من نعمة العقل، وفضيلة العدل والمساواة، ويكون الدفاع عن حق الفقراء والمستضعفين هو أسمى طرق الحمد.. وأصبحت أقول: «الحمد لله الذي أنعم عليَّ بالعلم وأن أكون من المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان العامة وحقوق المرأة على وجه التحديد».
