يشكل العنوان (العنبر رقم 102) مدخلاً مناسباً إلى المتن الروائي لأنه يشكل جزئية معبرة عمّا يمكن أن يعيشه المريض، القابع في مستشفى، يعاني ما يعاني من قسوة الظروف وألم المرض.
في الحكاية يُظهر بطل الرواية "جاسم" وعياً مهماً بموقع الصحافي في المجتمع كإنسان قبل كل شيء، فهذه هي المرأة الأولى التي يزاول مهنته ميدانياً، حيث يُكلف بإجراء تحقيق عن مهنة الطب في إحدى المشافي، وليس في جعبته سوى نُتفٍ من الأسئلة غير المترابطة، اختلط الخوف بالإرتباك لديه، وبالرغبة في تحقيق نجاح ما.
عند دخوله المستشفى يلتقي بممرضة تعنى بمريض، يبدو أنه حالة خاصة، من الصعوبة التعامل معه، يرفض الكلام والطعام، وكل من يقترب منه، هذا الواقع، كان الدافع الأكبر للصحافي لرؤية ذلك المريض وفهم مشكلته "في العنبر رقم (102) كان يجلس المريض على كرسي في مواجهة نافذة الغرفة المفضية إلى فسحة ضيقة، دخلتُ والممرضة، ألقيت عليه السلام، ثم أعدتها مرّة ثانية وثالثة، لكنه لم يعرنا إنتباهاً..."
تتوالى الأحداث ليكشف السرد عن حالة مرضية سببها الظروف الإجتماعية التي عاشها المريض داخل أسرته، حيث أجبره والده على ترك المدرسة، والعمل في سن مبكر كسائق تواجه المشاكل، وآخرها أودى به إلى السجن...
في "العنبر رقم 102" يجوب هزاع المنصوري أفقاً جديداً في الشكل الروائي يكمل به عمله كصحافي، يفتح كوة على المجتمع وأمراضه التي تتجاوز الجسد إلى النفس، فجمع بين الفن الروائي والعمل الصحافي، وروّض قساوة الواقع، أليست هذه رسالة الأدب.
