كثيرة هي الأسئلة والمسائل التي تطرحها رواية "إبرة الرعب" للكاتب والناقد السوري هيثم حسين، فمن سؤال الهوية، الى سؤال القاع الاجتماعي وما يقع عليه من تهميش وإقصاء، إلى الرهان على الإنسان في مواجهة قدره أو التسليم له.. وغيرها من إشكالات تدور رحى الرواية حول محاور عدة متداخلة، منها التعرف المغلوط إلى العالم، والرد العنيف على الظلم اللاحق بالشخصية الإنسانية، ومحاولتها الانتقام لتاريخ مديد من الظلم، ثم الدخول في تفاصيل الفساد والتهميش والإتجار بالبشر، وبعض ممهدات التطرف، ودور بعض السوريين في الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية... وكل ذلك يأتي في سياق فني، يصوّر أمكنة عدة، ابتداء من قرية نائية في شمال شرق سورية، مروراً بدمشق وريفها وصولاً الى بيروت. واعتمد الروائي في هذا العمل تقنية تعدد الرواة، ساعياً الى الخوض في موضوعات إشكالية لافتة، متجاوزاً الخطوط الحمر التي تفرضها الأنظمة السياسية.
إلى ذلك، ترصد الرواية مشاركة الكردي السوري في الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية عبر بعض الشخصيات، وتأثير ذلك على المجتمع الكردي، إضافة الى تسليط الضوء الى الممارسات الخاطئة التي حملت بصمة الجيش السوري في لبنان وأساءت كثيراً للناس، وتحضر في هذا السياق بدايات الاصطدام بالذهنية الاجتماعية والتحريمات المفروضة وسلطتها المكبّلة لحرية الأفراد.
