حيث يسيطر على أحداثَ رواية الطلياني لغزُ اعتداء في مقبرة استهدف به عبد النّاصر، الملقب بـالطّلياني، جارَه إمام المسجد خلال دفن والده الحاج محمود أمام ذهول المعزّين. فيتكفّل الراوي بتقصّي دوافع تلك الحادثة من خلال إعادة بناء الذاكرة الجريحة لـصديقه الطلياني مستعيدا وقائع تمتدّ من طفولته إلى ليلة الحادثة.
والظاهر من أحداث رواية الطلياني أنّها رحلة في حياة طالب يساريّ كان فاعلا وشاهدا، في الجامعة التونسية وخارجها أواخر عهد بورقيبة وبداية عهد بن عليّ، على أحلام جيل تنازعته طموحات وانتكاسات وخيبات في سياق صراع ضارٍ بين الإسلاميّين واليساريين ونظام سياسيّ ينهار، وفي سياق تحوّلات قِيَميّة خلخلت بنيان المجتمع التونسيّ. فتكشف الرواية، من خلال إطلالة الطلياني على عالم الصحافة، آليّات الهيمنة والرقابة بقدر ما تكشف، من خلال علاقته بزينة طالبة الفلسفة الطموحة، هشاشةَ الشخصيّات وتواريخها السرّيّة وجراحها الباطنيّة.
