موضوع الهمزة موضوع قديم جديد متجدد. كان ولا يزال من أكثر الموضوعات تعرضاً للبحث والجدل، ذلك أن أحوال الهمزة مفرقة مبعثرة في طيات كتب النحو والصرف، لم يجمعها إلى اليوم إلاّ القليل من الكتب.
ويجيء الكتاب في هذا الإطار ليفي بحاجة المكتبة العربية ككتاب في الهمزة حيث حرصت أدما طربية، مؤلفة الكتاب. إلى أن يكون مؤلفها جامعاً لأوضاع الهمزة وأحوالها، ومعرفة لفظها وكتابتها وقد جعلته، إضافة إلى تحديد الهمزة لغة واصطلاحاً ولقباً، وفصولاً تزيد على العشرة وكانت على الشكل التالي:
تسميات الهمزة، نوعا الهمزة، تخفيف الهمزة، كتابة الهمزة، الاسم المحدود، حروف الهجاء، إبدال الهمزة من الهاء، والعكس، همزة الواو والياء والألف، زيادة همزة القطع، حذف همزة القطع. وقد تضمنت تلك الفصول مسائل حول عنوان كل فصل شرحتها المؤلفة كلها في موضعها ليأتي هذا الكتاب بترتيب جديد لمسائل الهمزة وموادها، جمعت فيه المؤلفة ما تشرذم من القواعد المتعلقة بالهمزة تخفيفاً وكتابة وإبدالاً وزيادة وحذفاً. في معجم واحد واضح، يناسب المتخصص والمعلم بالدرجة الأولى، ويناسب المتعلم بالدرجة الثانية.
