محطات عديدة لا زالت غامضة في تاريخ الجزائر خاصة تلك التي تلت مرحلة الاستقلال وبناء الدولة الجزائرية المستقلة ولعل أحد أسباب هذه الضبابية التي تلت هذه المرحلة تحصن العديد من الشخصيات الفاعلة في الدولة خاصة العسكرية منها بالصمت، رافضة الكشف عما تختزنه ذاكرتهم من أحداث ووقائع هي في الأصل ''ملك الأمة الجزائرية'' كما قالها ذات يوم المرحوم لخضر بن طوبال. العقيد الطاهر الزبيري الذي يعد أحد أبطال ثورة التحرير الجزائرية وقائد أركان الجيش الوطني الشعبي في الفترة ما بين 1963 و 1967 قرر أخيرا أن يكسر هذه القاعدة ويفرغ ما في جعبته من أسرار لإماطة اللثام عن الكثير من الحقائق وحل شفرة العديد من الألغاز التي بقيت لوقت قريب محل جدل وتخمين جانب من الصواب مرارا، لافتقاد هؤلاء وهؤلاء للمعلومة الصحيحة. وتكمن أهمية مذكرات العقيد الطاهر الزبيري التي تغطي المرحلة من 1962 إلى غاية 2011 في كون صاحبها يعد من أقطاب النظام الجزائري الذين أسسوا الدولة الجزائرية المستقلة ووضعوا ركائزها. بل كان العقيد زبيري أحد الفاعلين الرئيسيين داخل العلبة السوداء للنظام ومن صناع القرار البارزين خاصة في الفترة التي كان فيها قائدا للأركان، كيف لا وهو الذي قاد رفقة العقيد بومدين ما سمي بالتصحيح الثوري في 1965 ضد الرئيس أحمد بن بلة قبل أن يخوض مواجهة حاسمة مع العقيد هواري بومدين في 14 ديسمبر 1967 لم تكن لصالحه. وسيكتشف القارئ في هذا الكتاب حقائق مذهلة تنشر لأول مرة وبأسلوب مثير ومشوق، وسيطلع على أسرار وتفاصيل بعضها لم يبق من الأحياء سوى العقيد.
