تعيش دول الساحل أزمات متعددة أبرزها أزمة ''الزمن السلفي'' الذي وضع بصماته الدامية على حياة هذه الدول، بشكل مخيف منذ عدة سنوات، مثيرا أسئلة كثيرة في السياسة التي أعاد تشكيلها من جديد والأمن الذي استنفره لمحاربة تنظيمات متموجة كسلاسل رمال الصحراء، والدين الذي يجعل منه مقاتلو السلفية وخصومهم على حد سواء ميدانا للتنازع. إن دراسة المشهد السلفي في منطقة الصحراء، يستدعي بالضرورة الحفر حول الجذور التاريخية والفكرية لفلسفة ما بات يعرف بظاهرة التطرف الديني، وروافدها الثقافية ومآلاتها المتوقعة. لن يكون من الإجحاف القول إن ''الحركة السلفية" الجزائرية، تمثل الرافد الأبرز للحركات السلفية في منطقة الساحل الإفريقي، فقد خرج من معطف السلفية الجزائرية أغلب إن لم نقل كل التنظيمات السلفية الموجودة بمنطقة الساحل، حيث مثل قادة السلفية المقاتلة الأساتذة الأول للتنظيمات المسلحة الجهادية.
