يُلقي هذا الكتاب الضّوء على أحد أعلام الفكر والعلم والفن في الحضارة العربية الإسلامية عامة وحضارة الأندلس خاصّة. وعلى رغم بُعد الزّمن بيننا وبينه (نحو ألف عام تقريباً) وما جرى على الثقافة الأندلسية من أحداث مُدمِّرة، ورغم إحراق بعض كتب ابن حزم في حياته (ظلماً وعدوناً) وضَياع بعضها الآخر، لقد بقي من تراث ابن حزم قدرٌ كبيرٌ، في أغراض ٍ شتّى، هو كاف ٍ للدّلالة على شخصيّته، وتبيين ملامح فكره، والدّلالة على سعة أُفقه، وتنوع إبداعاته، وعلى تركه أثراً كبيراً في الحضارة العربية الإسلاميّة، والفكر العالمي. وكان ابنُ حزم يُغرِّد - في زمانه - في سرب الأندلسيين بمشاركته في قضايا أدبية وفنية وثقافية، وتاريخية وعلمية يقل جدل خصومه فيها، وغرّد كثيراً خارج سربه بإعلانه آراءه ونظريّاتِه ومواقفه في شؤون كثيرة من الرأي والسياسة والفنّ والفقه وشؤون متعددة في مناحي الحياة ممّا لا ينسجم مع فكر الأكثريّة ومواقفهم.
