ليس من قبيل الصدفة أن يكون اسم بطل رواية إبراهيم عبد القادر المازني «إبراهيم» الثاني، وفي رواية أخرى «إبراهيم» الكاتب، فقد تعمَّد الروائي أن يسمي البطل باسمه. ذلك أن المازني جمع في هذه الرواية بين جانب من حياته وجانب من خياله، ويعترف المازني لنفسه بذلك، حيث يذكر في مطلع روايته أبيات من الشعر تدل على هذا المعنى! إنها رواية سيكولوجية بامتياز، تهيم في الأبعاد النفسية للنفس الإنسانية، فهي رواية الحب قبل الزواج وبعده، وهي أيضًا رواية الخوف من الشيخوخة والموت، باختصار هي رواية اعترافات. إن هذا العمل يمثل بحق جزءًا من تاريخ الرواية العربية. وتتميز الرواية بأسلوب فريد، يشهد للمازني بمكانة كبيرة في أدبنا العربي.
