مرت عملية أعمال المازنى بمرحلتين أساسيتين الأولى أنجزها المازنى ، والثانية أنجزها آخرون وهى المستمرة حتى الان والتى جرى فيها تشوية أعماله بدرجات متفاوتة ورغم أن كتابات المازنى التى لم تجمع لا عزفت على تتبعها لجمعها وتوثيقها حتى يتيسر نشر طبعة نقدية لأعماله الكاملة ، ولا بد أن أشير هنا إلى الدور الحماسى للدكتور جابر عصفور الذى اقترح أن نبدأ باعمال غير المنشورة . وقد قسمت هذه الأعمال غير المنشوة على أساس موضوعى إلى أربعة أقسام قسم أول جمعت فيه تأملات المازنى وذكرياته وجمعت فى القسمين التاليين ما تيسر جمعه من المقالات والدراسات النقدية أما القسم الرابع فخصصته للاشكال بمقدمة عن بعض خصائص العمال المنشورة فيه .
